Snow Day! (#2)

Today has been a storybook version of a perfect February day! First, we had a Valentine's Day party with our homeschool group. It started snowing about an hour before we left for the party and the car already had a layer of snow. I have never really driven in snow. It made me a little nervous. We had a fantastic time indulging on sweet treats made by all the moms and the kids played on bounce house stuff (we had the party at an inflatables place). All the kids brought Valentines for each other, and it was a lot of fun visiting with the other moms. By the time we got home we had a really thick covering of snow over the entire yard! I am SO HAPPY that Corey got to come home and play in the snow with us!!!! (He missed it last time because he was gone on his 2 week road trip)



We had even more snow this time! Enough to totally cover the yard and enough to sled! If only we had a steep enough hill!!! It didn't work great, but it was fun to try!

Katie was able to go a little longer distance since she's heavier than Noah.

I measured right before we came in and we had 1 3/4". But, it has been showing heavily ever since, so I think we are probably up to 2" by now!

Snow 2010

It is getting to be a pretty regular tradition to have a snow day in January over the past few years! AND it gets better every year, so maybe next year we won't see any leaves poking through in our photos! Here are some shots of our recent snow days!

The first thing we always do it put out a bowl to catch the snow!

It was falling steadily all afternoon and early evening. But, we never know how long it will stay so play we must right away! (ha, dr. seuss talk!)

That was last night.
This morning, there was even more snow! I am sure we had more early, but we didn't get out until about 11am. Here is their second attempt at snow angels!

The view at 11am. I almost regret not getting up earlier to get a picture, but I don't sleep well while Corey is gone, so we didn't get up very early. The front of our house gets sun all day, so a lot of it was already melting and falling off of things. Can you spot the snowmen in the this photo?

We made two TINY snowmen.

Katie tried to write 2010. We haven't officially started school since the new year, so we hadn't learned how to write it. It is funny how they apply the knowledge they have about how things go.... after a quick lesson she had it down!

Last shot of the day before I appalled them by making them strip down right inside the front door! ha ha! Warm clothes from the dryer, a warm fire, and hot cocoa to warm up!

A Lesson in faith...second year in a row!

It started snowing a bit here at our house around 6:00 or so. It was coming down pretty good but not sticking, so I didn't even tell the kids (they were distracted by a movie and I was making dinner). So later, they discovered this fact on their own. By this time the snow was just truly a "flurry" and it just looked like it had rained. They quickly got out a blue plastic bowl...."Mommy!!! Mommy!!! It's snowing! We have to put the bowl out there to catch some snow!!!!!"
Really?! "Well," I said, "it isn't sticking to the ground, I don't want to go out in the wet."
"Come on, we ALWAYS put a bowl out to catch the snow!!!" (always meaning we did that last year)

And, I remembered what happened last year. So...I reluctantly went out on the back deck and put their bowl out in the middle where it *might* catch some snow.

Low and behold if the snow doesn't pick up....here is a picture after about an hour. Nothing huge, but hey, it's something. I thought it was over...but after it was dark a couple of hours it started sticking. Here is what they were excited to see after we finished eating:
The snow has stopped at the moment, but it calls for a low of 26 degrees tonight and scattered flurries, so they may end up with a bit more by morning.

After seeing their bowl, this verse jumped in my mind:

"Then he touched their eyes and said, "According to your faith will it be done to you" -Matthew 9:29

There's a lesson in there somewhere. It kind of goes along with my Bible memory verse for the second part of this month also......"whatever you ask for in prayer, BELIEVE."

The bowl was set out BEFORE it started snowing hard and sticking.
What bowl has God asked you to put out there?
"According to (our) faith" will God do great things for us.

This brings it all around to my verse for the month:

Mark 11:24
"Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer,
believe that you have received it and it will be yours."

Let it Rain, Let it Rain, Let it Rain

I had not noticed just how bad the rain situation is. I avoid the news, and the only time I check the weather is when it looks like it might be "bad." So....I didn't know just how long it had been since it rained. I don't enjoy being out in the rain, so to me, out of sight, out of mind. I knew that we had water restrictions but when was the last summer when we didn't? So...this morning, when my kids got up...they ran back from the kitchen yelling "It's raining! It's raining! Mommy, it's raining!" You would have thought they were talking about snow! Seriously, in the life of a child, a day seems like a week, so to them it has been a lifetime since they saw it raining out the window. Remember when waking up to snow was about the #2 best thing that could happen in your life? *sigh* Just this week, someone told me that there was some town in GA that was completely out of water...which upon researching I discovered that they were 2 weeks away from no water...(huge difference here people, get your facts straight :) That's when I realized it was so bad. Then, when I did bother to check the forecast (not because of the rain, because our air is messing up and I want to know when the fall weather is coming for Pete's sake!)...anyway, when I did check the forecast...what do you know...2 days of rain in the forecast! So, my worrying over the rain for months did not bring it any sooner or later. I missed out on all that stress....and now it is raining. I am sitting here in the same rain as the people who checked their brown plants every day, who worried over the level of the lake for weeks, and who got out in the middle of the night to water their grass for months. I am happy that we are getting rain today, don't get me wrong. I think it is great. So do my kids. But what I am more worried about is this: are we going to sweat in the halloween costumes or what? Where is the chilly air and the frost!??? My air conditioner unit and I WANT TO KNOW!
