The Party

Tonight was the family party. The trade off for Noah's huge shopping spree was that we had a small family party instead of the big party at fill in the blank expensive location with a full meal and all that stuff. I think it was a lot of fun and the Spongebob decor was so cool!

I tried to make blue punch to go along with the under the sea theme, but I couldn't find white cranberry juice that was called for, and using a slightly more yellow juice made the punch turn out green (not sure you can see it in the pic). Corey said the green was more like ocean water anyway, ha ha.

Katie wanted her picture with Spongebob.

Noah got more money for some more shopping!!! Yay! ha ha. He wants to use the rest of his money on new Nintendo DS games.

New pjs from Katie.

Katie the photographer. She got several treats as well. :)

Noah, like Katie at her 6th, was able to read all his birthday cards with the exception of a few words. What a guy! :)

Iron Man toys!

New rain boots from Chris and Hannah! Much needed after the recent growth spurt!

Spongebob with his cake.

The guests....

Noah and Nanna...(Uncle Ben was there, but no pic)

Maw Maw (my grandmother) and Katie and Noah

My mom and dad...Meme and Grandpa with the kids
(with some tiny friends)

Uncle Chris (my brother) and Aunt, er...I mean, Hannah. ha ha.

And a parting word from Katie.
A great time was had by all!
This party if officially over!

Noah's 6th Birthday!

Happy Birthday to our awesome son: Noah Carter Thompson!
I can't believe it!!!!! He is 6 now, the baby is six!!!!!

We surprised Noah with a shopping spree for his birthday! Well, he knew he wanted to do a shopping spree, but he didn't know it was going to be tonight! Here he is, in the driveway, opening his gift: (why we were in the driveway will be explained in a later post, stay tuned for that great story soon! It also contributes to why we switched to doing the shopping tonight!)

Lots o'money.......

$250 shopping spree!!!!! WOW!!!!!

and now....

This is after we told him we were going shopping TONIGHT!!!!!! He was so excited and surprised! He thought he had to wait until Saturday after his party!
But, we like to do something special on their "actual" birthday. Tomorrow evening we will be at church for musical practice, and Corey has band practice. We had discussed doing breakfast but a few other things just made us decide to do it tonight.
Yeah, $250 is a lot of money for a 6 year old to spend at the toy store...but we do big birthdays around here, especially with our three gift Christmas tradition (which I will be forever grateful for our friends sharing that idea with us...its such a great tradition!), birthday is the time we do a big party and believe me, this $250 shopping spree was a better "deal" than Chuck E. for sure! ha ha ha!

I think Corey had just as much fun as Noah did, browsing the aisles. I was afraid it was going to take forever for him to choose what he wanted, but after the first item finally got put in the cart, the rest went a little easier, ha ha.

Noah showing off some of his goods.

We don't usually do the whole sibling getting a gift on the other ones party day, but after Katie walked patiently around with Noah getting all kinds of cool stuff and not complaining...she did get a little something too. :)

After shopping spree dinner.

Noah with all his goodies:
a skateboard (with training handle for beginners)
a pogo stick (very cool with a wide base attachment for learning)
Nerf N-Strike video game
a pack of bakugan toys
pokemon cards
walkie talkies
2 matchbox cars
a helmet
a giant nerf type gun (toys r us brand)
an electric drum set
and Super Mario Galaxy 2 for the Wii.
I think he spent his money very wisely on some cool big stuff and little things too.
When we first got home, Corey, Katie, and Noah all enjoyed a little treat from her choice of toy.....

A classic Snoopy snow cone maker. It actually works! I always wanted one of those when I was little! ha ha!

After a very quick blitz playing with each thing for a couple of minutes....

We all said goodnight, and Happy Birthday to Noah who will greet his 6th birthday with a ton of new toys to enjoy in celebration!
We have a small party planned with all the grandparents and uncles on Friday with cake and ice cream.... his trade off for the "big friend party" for the shopping spree. I don't think he will have any complaints! :)
Tune in later for a complete run down of the first part of our day... which resulted in our leaving the house as much as possible tonight, and opening his gift in the driveway! Part of it involves me washing my hands with bottled water as well..you won't wanna miss it! :)

Mothers and Sons

I have such a wonderfully sweet little boy! He is so precious to me. I feel sorry for moms who don't have sons because there is something so special between a mom and her son.... just listen to this example...

The other day I was in the bathroom doing my makeup. The kids were both in the kitchen finishing up their lunch. We were headed somewhere after lunch I can't remember where...anyway..he loves to help out and one of the things is the best at is sweeping the kitchen for me. He is only five but does a fantastic job! He loves to feel grown up. (not like my daughter...a totally different story!)

He came back into the bathroom and said, "Mom...I think the trash is too full.... I'm going to go ahead and tie it up so we can take it out."

Did my mom heart just melt?! NOT!

I didn't miss a beat with my response....

"I want you to go get your sandwich out of the trashcan right now and eat it. And don't try to trick me like that ever again."

Oh, the brokenhearted downcast look I got in response...."Okay" he replied....tragically.

But he did obey.

Am I a bad mom for making my son eat a sandwich out of the trash can? Oh puleeze! It's not like we have poopy diapers in there anymore! Nah, we got much bigger problems than that to tackle... problems like a very smart boy!

Want another example of his extreme talent?

We were sitting at a restaurant and discussing Katie's "love list" (yeah another story there, how do they think of this stuff?). I don't remember how we got around to it but someone asked Noah if he had or who his girlfriend was or something to that affect. His response????

"I have two girlfriends....there and there..." (with a cunning smile and big blue eyes...pointing to his MOMMY and his sister!)

Does he know how to work a room or what?

Yeah....we have MUCH bigger problems than poopy diapers!

Happy 7th Birthday Katie Grace!

We have had a very busy past few weeks and I am regretful that I didn't get Katie's birthday post up on her birthday. So..here goes!
Yesterday, we celebrated Katie's 7th birthday!
Katie lost her first tooth on the day after her birthday last year, and has also since then gotten new glasses, and her hair cut off for locks of love. I knew her photo this year would be so different, because she has also lost 6 MORE teeth since then, and has her "big" teeth in front now. WOW, what a change she has had this year! Look at the comparison. Both of these photos were taken ON her birthdays.

We started the day with a visit to North Point Mall...
Katie opening her gift from Mommy, Daddy, and Noah...
an AMERICAN GIRL STORE gift card!

Showing off her purchase:
With the gift card and cash she received from my mom and dad and grandmother, she was able to get:
Ta da! KITT KITTREDGE! (the depression era doll, book, and accessory kit!)

Katie and her loot in front of the store on the way out.
We went into a Sephora store to look for something and Katie told the lady that it was her birthday.
Turns out, it was the store clerks birthday also! She gave Katie a free mini lip gloss!

We had lunch at Pappsito's. It was our first time there. They make FRESH flour tortillas (you can watch them being made) and have delicious fajitas! Mmmmm!

We tried a new dessert, a surprise choice from the waiter who insisted we try it.
It was called Tres Leches, and was WONDERFUL!

Katie and Noah on the porch of the restaurant.

Beautiful seven year old Katie.

Today was another busy day. Downtown Cartersville hosted trick or treating this afternoon.
Noah was BATMAN!

Katie was Belle.

We had such a fun time yesterday and today!
Happy Birthday to my sweet seven year old girl!
I can't believe how smart, beautiful, and grown-up you are becoming!

Soccer in the rain...Tellus in the rain....

Noah posing before his soccer game. It ended up raining again.
Not terribly, but enough to need an umbrella and change of clothes afterward.

You can see his hair is a little wet.
He was actually not "in" during the heaviest rain and was under an umbrella.

Before we left this morning, I got on facebook and saw that a few people had posted that they were going to visit a local museum as part of the Smithsonian's Free Museum Day. All we had to do was fill out a form, print out a pass and it was good for one person plus a guest. I signed both Corey and myself up and we decided to head over for a visit after the game and lunch. This museum opened up this past spring (I believe) and we had not visited yet. I was so glad that my friends posted that they were going because I had totally forgotten that it was free day.

It was VERY soggy when we arrived. They were directing traffic into the hotel parking lot next door because it was so crowded and we hiked across a VERY wet field around mud puddles and water to get to the door. When we got there, a sign on the door told us that only one pass was allowed per family. I was slightly annoyed because we had trudged across the muddy field and would not have come on such a very crowded day if we had known we were going to have to pay for any of us.
Well, as we were standing there calculating how much it would cost, a man came over and said, "If you will come over here we had another line where they are trying to expedite the process."
The man at the end of that line came over and asked for our pass and asked how old our kids were. We told him and he said, "Do you have an extra pass?" And we did, because I had printed one for both Corey and myself. He said, "Each pass is good for two people." And he gave us stickers for all four of us to wear, so we didn't have to pay after all! YAY!!!!!!

The Tellus Museum has a little bit of everything. Our first stop was the dinosaur exhibit.

Katie and Noah enjoyed getting to touch some fossils. Katie even touched what they said was dinosaur poop! lol. She touched it before he told her what it was! Then Noah didn't want anything to do with it!

This was Katie's pose in almost every single photo today. Not sure why....

They also had a room with transportation exhibits, with buggies, a replica of the Wright brothers airplane, a helicopter, and space rockets.

There was also a kid's section with all kinds of interactive displays but it was VERY crowded in there! We were telling ourselves that it really didn't seem that crowded for being free day, and when we got in that part we knew why! Everyone was in there! We didn't get to do the gemstone mining area or the fossil dig..the line to get in those classrooms was EXTREMELY long and not moving! We also didn't do the planetarium. I guess we will have to go again when it isn't free day to do the rest.
UPDATE: I have since heard from a friend who works at the museum that they had 3700 visitors yesterday!!!! She said a typical Saturday runs 900 and a busy day around 1100.
WOW! The great thing is...she invited us to come another day as her guests!!! Yay!

Here is a picture of when we were leaving. Corey had gone to get the car and drive it up because it was POURING rain! But, there was nowhere near the door to park at all, so he just parked in the parking lot this time and brought umbrellas. The umbrellas did NO good though, because it was pouring so hard that they ground was just puddled up with water and our pants and shoes got soaked through! The rain was pouring off the edge of the umbrellas and soaking our sleeves. The parking lot was flooding too and it was just miserable trying to get out! Ugh!
It was a fun visit though...a true value! I am so glad I checked on facebook this morning to see my friends were going so we knew about it.
