Les Mis...

We had our date night last night! It was SUPER fun! (that's for you emily!)

Actually, we kind of had a date day! Katie and Noah went with Corey's mom after the soccer game to go camping in their camper at Allatoona. Since we were on our own we decided to pick up lunch out as well. We went to a little "hole in the wall" Irish place in Cartersville called M'vorneen's. It was really good, we both had a "philly style" chicken sandwich with these GREAT french fries and tater chip things (like at zaxby's kind of). Anyway, after that we came home, straightened up the house a bit and got ready to go out. The bad part about Corey's mom being gone camping, was that we couldn't stop by and let her take pictures of us. We set the camera on timer delay on the rail of the porch and tried to get some, but it was kind of hard and doing that we didn't really want to stand out there and take a bunch.

We decided to go down to Atlantic Station first. We went in Ikea, which we had never been in before. WOW! That is such a cool store! Their stuff is really nice and CHEAP! Can't wait till I can go when I have money to spend! ha ha!

We walked around Atlantic Station for a while and then it was getting to be time to decide what to eat, so we decided to head on over to The Fox, park, and decide what to eat near there. We walked around for a while, then decided to eat at an Italian place a block down. I can't remember the name of it, but it was good. Believe it or not, neither one of us had pasta! Corey had lamb cutlets over lentils (it was SO good!) and I had a pear/gargonzola salad. It was good food, but it was kind of expensive for the portion (we were full, but it should have been a little cheaper in other words). We had chocolate amaretto cake and chocolate mousse for dessert, the mousse was YUMMY!

Then it was time to go stake out the theater. People were already lined up to go in but we decided to wait out on the sidewalk for a while. There was a whole group of people coming together from church but we had decided to do our own thing and have a date night instead of going with them to eat and all. They were all riding together and we were going to wait on them, but at about 10 after 7 we decided to go on in. On our way in we stopped and asked a couple to get a picture of us. I didn't take very many pictures other than that.

The Fox is BEAUTIFUL! It is very ornately decorated and I regret not getting more pictures. We went on in about 7:30 to find out seats. We were in the Loge on the front row, "the best seats in the house" the usher told us. But, anyone who knows me will know that I had to spazz out when I was walking to my seat. I HATE heights!!!! I was feeling very lightheaded and all walking down to our seat and I spent the first 15 minutes sitting and looking at Corey's shoulder instead of looking around. But, as time passed I acclimated and was able to look around and enjoy the view. The Fox is set up to look like you are in an outdoor amphitheater. There is a "sky" above you and the seating part looks like an ancient palace or something. The stars are twinkling and the clouds move. It is really very beautiful. Oh, a guy was playing "Mighty Mo" the big pipe organ before the show...that was kind of neat!

The rest of our group got there about 10 till the show. I had not ever read or seen anything about this show before. I did read a little synopsis of the plot bc someone told me it might be confusing. The singing was awesome and the show was great!

On the way home we stopped at Steak and Shake for some cheese fries!

In the bed about 1 and I got up at 10am this morning! It was my day off from teaching the preschool class and with no kids to get ready for church I decided to "take a day." WOW, I haven't slept until 10:30 since I can't remember!!!!!! Poor Corey had to get up at 7 though, so I feel bad for him, but I am very thankful for my extra sleep, especially since school starts back tomorrow!

Here is our picture from the porch. I can't get the one taken from the theater to work right now for some reason, the sizing is odd.
I really wish we had taken some better pictures. I ultimately decided to just get a new outfit because the boots I had didn't go with the dress I wanted to wear and new shoes would have cost as much as this outfit! I kind of enjoyed being dressy casual too since we went out early. We will wear this again sometime and get some good pictures!

Bah Humbug on the Superbowl!!!!!

It was just brought to my attention today that the Superbowl is in Tampa, FL, this year. On February 1st. February 1st was going to be our first day of visiting parks on our Orlando trip. Orlando happens to be about 70-something miles from Tampa. Apparently, when the Superbowl was in Miami, the crowds at the Disney parks were worse than usual, as people made a vacation of it!
ARGH! Bah HUMBUG!
"Experts" are predicting that the crowds will be even worse with Tampa being so near Orlando!
So, we made the decision today to postpone our trip to the next week.
That does not make my day :(
On the other hand, it would not have made my day to plan the trip at the least busy time of year only to find out that it had become one of THE busiest days of the year. So I am glad we found out and were able to change our reservation with no penalties.

Welcome Autumn!

I can't believe it has been a full week since I have posted anything. I guess there hasn't been much to say. I am VERY excited about the first day of fall on Monday. I spent this week gathering supplies for fall crafts with the kids and hitting up the 50% off sales at Michael's and Hobby Lobby. I picked up some leaf garland, a new sign for the door, a basket with some scented pine cone filler, and some other little things. I plan on spending the rest of the day doing some "fall cleaning" ( I always do this instead of spring cleaning) and getting it all set up. I love the fall. It is actually already feeling cooler already, which is a surprise for Georgia for this early in the year.

Next weekend will be fun too...Corey and I will be going with a group from church to see Les Miserables at The Fox Theater in Atlanta. I have never seen a broadway show and I have never been to The Fox, so I am really looking forward to it.

And, we have Katie's 6th birthday coming up next month, with a great surprise for her! We are taking her to see
Disney's Worlds of Fantasy on Ice. The show includes characters from the new Tinkerbell movie, scenes from The Little Mermaid, Cars, and The Lion King. So, Noah will get to go and enjoy it with us too. We bought tickets a couple of months ago because we got a flyer in the mail with a code for half priced tickets opening night. This is part of her present, so we are having her birthday party pretty early so she can get them in time and she can get her Tinkerbell costume she wants for Halloween and wear it to the performance.

We also hope to get a little weekend getaway to Ellijay to enjoy the Apple Festival. I have never been there before either, but I think that will be a fun thing to do with the kids and see some pretty fall leaves.

So, not much going on this week, but coming soon I will probably have lots to post. I have been meaning to take pictures of my newest project too: I got a sewing machine! Corey's Memaw is cleaning out and getting to move and she has several sewing machines (she was a pro back in the day) so I have inherited one of her awesome machines. I plan to blog about that when I get started on some projects and show the AWESOME collection of material I will inherit along with it (think YEARS of collecting material!). I am so excited and blessed to be totally set-up for a new hobby with GREAT quality materials and a great machine...it even does some embroidery too! We went over last weekend to pick up the machine and she sat down to show me the basics of how the machine works. She also had prepared a box with some basic supplies...thread, bobbins, all different kinds of extra needles for different uses on the machine, buttons, zippers, and much more! I have absolutely NO excuse to not make something, so maybe on our fall break next week I can complete one of my new year's resolutions for this year which was to make a curtain for Noah's toy storage cabinet, or maybe get started on finishing the quilt I started two years ago! Hello home-made Christmas presents! (probably 09 :))

Stay-tuned! Now to get to that fall cleaning! (I don't enjoy spring cleaning, it means the coming of HOT here in GA! Fall means the coming of BEARABLE weather and yummy baking!)

Uninspired...

I have been pretty uninspired recently....not sure what's up, but just haven't had much to say. I think I may have burned out on blogging (I know, who would do that with only 7 blogs to write?!)
I got a haircut yesterday, as did Noah. Still waiting to get Katie's done. I have been sort of growing my hair out the past months, but it just got to the point of total aggravation, where I could do nothing but put it in a ponytail or spend an hour to not even then be happy with the results, so I got it cut short again. I LOVE it! Here are some pictures...don't laugh too hard at my "serious" face...Corey told me to make a dramatic face and I did and he actually caught it before I started laughing. He wants me to put it as my facebook profile picture. But, anyway, here is the new do...complete with drama!

Co-op Starts and other news....

I'll start with the "other news" first: This weekend is the Buttons and Bows consignment sale at The Church at Liberty Square in Cartersville. Come by Friday and Saturday and check out the TONS of baby and kids and maternity items available for awesome prices! Anything baby and anything kids!

Co-op Starts:

Monday was the first day of our co-op classes that will be meeting at our church. I am very excited that we have found an active group that really wants to do a lot of things together and plan a busy year for our children! We will meet on Monday mornings for 11 weeks. Katie and Noah will each take 3 hours of classes every Monday. Noah is taking "Before Five in a Row" and "Kinetic Learning through Music" and Katie is taking "Dinosaurs (a creationist explanation)", and "Five in a Row." In between their two classes they have an hour of physical ed. I am helping out in Katie's dinosaur class and in the preschool "pe" time. I

t was a lot of fun and it has ended up being a pretty large group. There are 29 kids in the beginner classes (Katie's age, K-2nd) and they have had to split them up. During my free hour I got to hang out with some other homeschool moms. I am thinking of maybe volunteering to teach a class next session, but not sure what I would teach...any ideas?!

I know it may be kind of confusing to think about why someone who wants to homeschool would want to send their child to "school" in a co-op situation, but really it isn't that strange. You know they are in a class with children from families who have a like-minded world-view, and the teachers are other moms who care enough to volunteer to teach the children. That right there makes it totally different than just any other school environment. Plus...it's just ONE day a week and we start at 9! WAY better than school! ha ha!

Anyway, it was lots of fun and Katie and Noah really seemed to enjoy themselves. I am really happy we found the group. I have volunteered to head up an "awards day" for the end of the year, but that's all for now. Just wanted to give a little update on what's going on with us. I have some pictures of our first day at CHAT (Christian Homeschoolers Assembling Together) but I don't feel like posting it tonight...I am going to BED!

Now for a precious story about Katie....

The other morning Corey walked down the hallway and noticed Katie standing in her room. She was holding a piece of "nature art" she had created at her homeschool afternoon group. It has nuts, sand, grass, etc, glued on the page to make a picture.
Anyway, she was standing in her room, holding the paper up in her arms facing it up toward the ceiling.
Corey said, "What are you doing?"
She replied: "I'm showing this picture to God."

Wow. I believe He probably thought it was an awesome piece of art, what do you think?

SCORE!

Noah scored a goal tonight at the soccer game! We, as the VERY young 4 year old team, were getting totally stomped by the other team, AGAIN, but this coach was AWESOME and had his team step way back on the field and pretty much let us run the ball down and score. You should have seen our kids, they were absolutely THRILLED! They had a great attitude though, and that one goal really did improve their playing the rest of the game! They were actually stealing the ball some and almost getting it in, but those "almost 6 year old" legs on the other team were just faster at getting it out from in front of our players.

So, when the other team let us run the ball down the field, Noah happened to be the one that actually kicked it in the goal. I was standing on the field and behind them so I couldn't see, but Corey said his face totally LIT UP when all the parents started yelling and applauding. He really did deserve to get the goal, even if I AM the coach! ha ha. We were short a couple of players so a few of ours had to play almost the entire time, which is hard for little ones their age, but Noah, and the other coach's son, Cash, didn't get lazy or stop trying their best the ENTIRE time! I was SO proud of him! I hope we caught it on video, if we can get it on here I will post it.

I am so proud of him! Just wanted to say that!
