Co-op Starts:
Monday was the first day of our co-op classes that will be meeting at our church. I am very excited that we have found an active group that really wants to do a lot of things together and plan a busy year for our children! We will meet on Monday mornings for 11 weeks. Katie and Noah will each take 3 hours of classes every Monday. Noah is taking "Before Five in a Row" and "Kinetic Learning through Music" and Katie is taking "Dinosaurs (a creationist explanation)", and "Five in a Row." In between their two classes they have an hour of physical ed. I am helping out in Katie's dinosaur class and in the preschool "pe" time. I
t was a lot of fun and it has ended up being a pretty large group. There are 29 kids in the beginner classes (Katie's age, K-2nd) and they have had to split them up. During my free hour I got to hang out with some other homeschool moms. I am thinking of maybe volunteering to teach a class next session, but not sure what I would teach...any ideas?!
I know it may be kind of confusing to think about why someone who wants to homeschool would want to send their child to "school" in a co-op situation, but really it isn't that strange. You know they are in a class with children from families who have a like-minded world-view, and the teachers are other moms who care enough to volunteer to teach the children. That right there makes it totally different than just any other school environment. Plus...it's just ONE day a week and we start at 9! WAY better than school! ha ha!
Anyway, it was lots of fun and Katie and Noah really seemed to enjoy themselves. I am really happy we found the group. I have volunteered to head up an "awards day" for the end of the year, but that's all for now. Just wanted to give a little update on what's going on with us. I have some pictures of our first day at CHAT (Christian Homeschoolers Assembling Together) but I don't feel like posting it tonight...I am going to BED!
